Irrigation Technician

Coal Club is seeking an experienced Golf Course Irrigation Technician to join our team as we restore one of Gil Hanse's earliest golf course designs into one of the premier private golf destinations in the country.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved from the ground up during construction and then transition into a long-term role maintaining and improving a world-class golf course.
Compensation
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Compensation is based on experience and qualifications.
- Experienced Golf Course Irrigation Technician: $30-$40/hour
- Highly experienced technician with construction experience: will be considered at higher rate
Full-time, year-round position
Position Overview
During construction, this position will play a key role in the installation of our new irrigation system while working alongside our golf course construction team.
Following construction, the position will transition into maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the irrigation system as Coal Club prepares to open in Fall 2027 and beyond.
ResponsibilitiesDuring Construction
- Install irrigation laterals
- Install sprinkler heads and swing joints
- Tie new HDPE pipe into existing PVC systems
- Work alongside the pipe fusion crew
- Pressure test irrigation lines
- Flush irrigation systems
- Set final sprinkler head grades
- Assist with system startup and testing
After Construction
- Diagnose and repair irrigation leaks
- Replace and adjust sprinkler heads
- Install new laterals for future course improvements
- Expand irrigation to new course features
- Perform winter repairs and system upgrades
- Maintain pumps, valves, controllers, and related irrigation equipment
- Troubleshoot and optimize overall irrigation performance
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- Experience installing and repairing golf course irrigation systems
- Knowledge of HDPE and PVC irrigation systems
- Experience reading irrigation plans and layouts
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate equipment and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Excellent work ethic and attention to detail
Lateral installation experience is highly preferred.

Coal Club is an invitation-only private golf club currently under restoration by renowned golf course architects Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner on the site of the former Capstone Golf Club in Brookwood, Alabama.
The club is being built as a national destination for passionate golfers and will feature a championship golf course, short course, luxury lodging, and practice facilities. Opening is scheduled for Fall 2027.
