Position description: Old Dominion Mechanical, LLC is currently seeking a skilled and dependable Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our commercial HVAC team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in installing and assembling sheet metal ductwork systems for HVAC applications. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented and safety-conscious environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Install commercial HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, heating systems, ventilation, and ductwork.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of HVAC systems.
- Perform system startups and testing to ensure proper operation.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other team members, including engineers and project managers, to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with HVAC systems during and after installation.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service reports and installation logs.
- Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with clients regarding installation processes and timelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist with the transportation and staging of materials
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions
- Report issues or changes in field conditions to supervisor
- Provide guidance to apprentices as needed

Years of Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in commercial sheet metal installation
Required Knowledge:
Sheet metal installation techniques
HVAC system layout and airflow principles
Basic understanding of local mechanical codes
Familiarity with duct fabrication and insulation
Required Skills:
Proficiency in using sheet metal tools and machinery
Ability to read and follow blueprints and technical drawings
Accurate measuring, cutting, and assembly of ductwork
Physical stamina and coordination
Problem-solving and adaptability in the field
Required Physical Abilities:
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Work on ladders and elevated platforms
Standing, kneeling, climbing, and bending for long periods
