Job Overview
New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. (NHLAA), a nonprofit legal services organization, seeks an experienced Office & Legal Support Manager to oversee the organization's administrative support functions and supervise the legal support staff, including legal assistants, secretaries, and the office assistant. This position works closely with the Executive Director and management team to coordinate office administration, support the Board of Directors, and ensure the efficient operation of the organization's administrative functions.
Primary Responsibilities
Management & Supervision
- Supervise NHLAA's legal assistants, secretaries, and office assistant, including onboarding, assigning and monitoring workflow, identifying professional development opportunities, and addressing day-to-day issues.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training administrative support staff.
- Ensure administrative support functions are carried out efficiently and effectively.
- Serve as a resource to administrative staff and assist with resolving operational issues as they arise.
- Maintain positive working relationships with members of the management team and staff.
Board of Directors and Event Support
- Works with the Executive Director to support and manage activities related to the Board of Directors, including attending all board meetings, arranging logistics for Board and committee meetings, preparing the agenda and minutes, supporting new Board members during the onboarding process, and making sure all Board members have resources to effectively participate and perform their Board functions.
- Prepare and distribute agendas and supporting materials for executive meetings as assigned.
- Provide administrative support related to board and committee functions, including agenda preparation and materials distribution to board members.
- Support logistics for NHLAA’s fundraising and development activities and events.
Office Administration & Coordination
- Manage office supplies, equipment, and administrative resources.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail and other administrative communications.
- Maintain petty cash, log incoming checks, and perform assigned administrative financial support functions.
- Assist with planning and coordinating staff meetings, organizational events, and internal activities.
- Provide logistical support for fundraising and development events.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience managing and supervising a team
- Experience supporting executive leadership and/or a Board of Directors preferred.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing priorities, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn new technology platforms.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and anticipate organizational needs.
- Commitment to and passion for NHLAA’s mission is highly desired.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
