CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, utilizes Occupational Therapy skills to assist in treatment of referred patients of all age populations. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served and his or her ability level. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patient’s current status in relation to their age specific needs.

Non-exempt Status: May be required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Subject to callback during any emergency.

Education: Graduate of an accredited program for COTA and as evidenced by primary source of verification
Licensure: Registered Certified Occupational Therapist license or eligible for license in the state of Georgia.
Experience: May be new graduate. Certification in physical agent modalities is preferred but not mandatory.
Skills: Must be knowledgeable in BLS CPR. Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs appropriate for age group of patient served and patients level of ability. Also must be able to identify needs for and complete basic splinting.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
May work in outpatient department, inpatient department, or at industrial sites or homes as needed for on-site assessment as needed. May be required to work a flexible schedule, including weekend and / or holiday coverage. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and equipment found in a typical therapy setting.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
Required to display characteristics consistent with certification requirements and ethical practice in Occupational Therapy. Must be able to physically assist with patient transfers, perform bending, reaching activities and be able to tolerate moderate amount of stress. Will need to be able to work under the direction of a variety of supervising therapists and be willing to assist other rehabilitation associates as needed.
