A warm and welcoming family in Durham is seeking a mature, dependable, and engaging nanny to care for their two wonderful children, ages 9 and 7. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships with school-aged children, loves staying active, and can provide a structured yet nurturing environment.
The children attend an international Montessori school and have a wide variety of interests, including swimming, soccer, ballet, rock climbing, art, and reading. They thrive with someone who enjoys spending time outdoors, encourages creativity, and genuinely enjoys interacting with children.
The oldest child has ADHD and anxiety, both of which are well-managed with appropriate treatment and support. The family is looking for a nanny who is patient, understanding, and confident in providing consistent guidance. Their parenting philosophy centers around being gentle while maintaining clear, firm boundaries, and they hope to find a caregiver who shares this approach.
The children's father is a physician who works outside the home. Due to a 50/50 custody arrangement, he is seeking dependable support during his parenting days to help keep the household running smoothly and ensure the children are well cared for.
Responsibilities Include:
- Helping the children get ready for school each morning.
- School drop-off and pick-up.
- Transporting the children to extracurricular activities and appointments.
- Assisting with homework and providing reminders to stay on task.
- Preparing healthy lunches and nutritious dinners (the children are adventurous eaters and enjoy trying new foods!)
- Providing care for minor illnesses when children need to stay home from school or be picked up early.
- Grocery shopping and other household errands.
- Children's laundry
- Light household upkeep during school hours, including tidying common areas, wiping countertops, and keeping the home organized.
- Dinner preparation for children and basic meal planning
- Running occasional errands such as dry cleaning pickup and drop-off
Schedule:
The family follows a rotating custody schedule consisting of:
- One week: 2 full days
- Following week: 3 full days
The current schedule includes Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday, generally from 7:00/7:30 AM until 6:00 PM.
If the schedule shifts to include Tuesdays (instead of a Monday or Wednesday), the workday may extend until 7:00 PM on those days.
The family would ideally like someone who has flexibility to work Mondays through Wednesdays and every other Friday, but they are also open to working with the right candidate to establish two consistent weekdays in addition to the every-other-Friday schedule.
A guaranteed minimum of 52 hours every two weeks will be provided, with some flexibility to discuss guaranteed hours for an exceptional long-term fit.
Compensation:
- $25-$28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Mileage reimbursement for transporting the children.
Requirements:
- COVID-vaccinated.
- Annual flu vaccine
- Up-to-date childhood vaccinations.
- Experience caring for school-aged children.
- Reliable, safe vehicle with room to transport two children.
- Excellent driving record.
- Punctual and dependable, as the parents' career requires a high level of reliability.
- Energetic, engaging, and interactive with children.
- Comfortable providing care for minor childhood illnesses when needed.
Bonus: A French-speaking nanny would be a dream candidate, as the children attend a French immersion Montessori school. While French fluency is certainly not required, it would be a wonderful added bonus.
