Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Receivable Specialist – Direct Bill to join our Accounting team. This specialized role focuses on managing receivables related to direct bill policies, primarily reconciling and collecting commissions and fees from insurance carriers. You will handle carrier commission statements, direct bill reconciliations, and ensure accurate cash application.
This is not a standard customer collections role — the emphasis is on insurance-specific direct bill transactions, carrier commission receivables, and supporting the financial accuracy of our agency billing operations. This role is heavy on data entry.
Key Responsibilities:
· Receive, review, and reconcile carrier commission statements and direct bill remittances against internal agency records and policy data
· Post and apply commission payments, policy fees, and other direct bill receivables to client accounts and the general ledger
· Research and resolve discrepancies between carrier commission reports and agency-produced billings (including differences in premiums, commissions earned, fees, taxes, and surcharges)
· Track and follow up on outstanding carrier commission receivables and unpaid direct bill items
· Monitor aging reports for direct bill receivables and commission receivables to ensure timely collections and accurate financial reporting
· Prepare and process deposits for incoming carrier commissions and client payments received by the agency
· Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes related to direct bill receivables and commissions
· Respond to inquiries from carriers, producers, and clients regarding commission payments, billings, and account status
Qualifications & Requirements:
· 2+ years of experience in accounts receivable or insurance accounting, with strong preference for experience in direct bill commission reconciliation
· Solid understanding of direct bill vs. agency bill concepts in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance
· Familiarity with carrier commission statements, policy-level accounting, and premium trust account compliance
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience
· Proficiency in agency management systems (e.g., AMS360, Applied Epic, or similar) and accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems)
· Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis
· High attention to detail and accuracy with complex insurance transactions
· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
· Ability to work independently while collaborating with producers, client service, and accounting teams
· Experience with automated reconciliation tools or insurance-specific financial platforms is a plus
