Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CNC Mill Set Up and Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in machining tools, blueprint reading, and CNC programming will ensure high-quality production standards are met efficiently. Duties
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Program CNC milling machines using G-code, M-code, and CAM software such as Mastercam or similar platforms.
- Set up CNC mills by installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces accurately according to specifications.
- Operate CNC milling machines with Fanuc or equivalent controls, ensuring precise machining operations.
- Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify part dimensions.
- Perform machine calibration, tool changes, and adjustments during production runs to maintain quality standards.
- Troubleshoot machining issues by analyzing machine performance and making necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols related to machine operation and material handling.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives such as lean manufacturing practices and process optimization.
Requirements
- Proven experience in CNC mill setup and operation within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code; experience with CAM software like SolidWorks or similar is preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical blueprints and interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) for precise machining.
- Familiarity with various machining tools such as end mills, drills, grinders, and hand tools used in metalworking.
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of metal machining processes including manual machining on lathes or grinders is a plus.
- Proficiency in measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines for quality control purposes.
- Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, feeds, speeds, and tolerances required during setup.
- Knowledge of CNC control systems like Fanuc or similar controllers for efficient machine operation.
- Ability to interpret mechanical blueprints accurately and perform precision measurement in machining tasks.
- Mechanical knowledge of plastics injection molding processes is advantageous but not required.
- Valid forklift certification preferred for material handling; familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
