Job Description: Facilities Manager, 2026-2027
The School Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of our school campus. The Cornerstone School Campus consists of 9 classrooms, additional class spaces, administrative offices, gymnasium, and associated facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of all physical aspects of the campus, promoting a safe and conducive learning environment for both students and staff.
School Description
The Cornerstone School in Stratham, New Hampshire has an opening for a Facilities Manager, starting in the Summer of 2026. The Cornerstone School is an independent Montessori school serving Toddler through eighth grade, with a current enrollment of approximately 170 students. We are committed to laying the foundation upon which each child can build, to become the architect of their own future. Our beautiful school is situated on 11 acres of land in a rural neighborhood setting. We are close to Boston and the mountains of New Hampshire and 12 miles from Portsmouth, NH with the Seacoast region being a huge draw for those who love outdoor recreation. Our school is financially sound, has been established for over 40 years and employs a supportive staff of professionals dedicated to providing high quality Montessori education to children. Our classrooms are well-equipped and beautiful.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Facilities Manager position at Cornerstone is a 12 month position.
The Facilities Manager works under the direction of the Head of School. The role of the Facilities Manager is to oversee, in coordination with the Head of School, the maintenance, safety, and integrity of the Cornerstone building and property on an ongoing basis, to include but not limited to:
- Coordinating and supervising the plowing, salting, shoveling, mowing, and maintenance of the grounds.
- Procuring quotes and hiring for above mentioned services in coordination with the Head of School.
- Maintaining a clean and safe educational facility to include cleaning and repairs as needed and contracting of services, in coordination with the Head of School, for cleaning and repairs when necessary.
- Coordinating with Head of School and inspection agencies for required inspections such as Fire Inspections, Boiler Inspections, Elevator Inspections, etc. and contracting relevant repairs as needed.
- Daily morning inspection of the building and grounds while school is in session, reporting any problems found to the Head of School. Timely correction or remediation of problems found.
- Provide assessment of large and potentially costly building maintenance projects that will be needed in the near future to the Head of School and Board of Directors. Procure quotes when required.
- Plan, procure estimates, and supervise contractors for any building projects that take place during the summer months relative to ongoing maintenance projects such as siding, roofing, structural repairs, etc.
- Plan, procure estimates, and supervise contractors for any new projects and/or renovations as determined desirable by the Head of School and/or the Board of Directors.
- The Facilities Manager position is a full-time position and hours are determined, in coordination with the Head of School, by time of year, projects underway, and the daily needs of the building.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in facilities management, preferably in an educational setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
- Familiarity with budget management and cost-control principles.
