SAMSAT, the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology, “Inspires What’s Next” through the exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math. Located in Port San Antonio, SAMSAT's History Museum has served thousands of students each year in museum-based, outreach, online and sponsor-funded programs. STEM Instructor Job Description
We are looking for a STEM Instructor to deliver (teach) STEM educational activities and programs to students at schools and in-house. Some program deliveries may include after-school programs at locations throughout San Antonio. Responsibilities include delivering curriculum, writing curriculum, maintaining materials, and collecting feedback on each session from participating students. To be successful in this role, a STEM Instructor should be familiar with various educational techniques for varying age groups and skill levels and have the ability to do project management. Additional duties to include museum staffing at both the SAMSAT Space and IT Museum and AREA 21® which may include leading group tours, curriculum delivery, maintain floor space aesthetics, and the ability to engage patrons. A STEM instructor will also be utilized for setup support for staffing events. Hours and locations will vary.
Beyond job duties, the successful candidate will have a heart for kids, a willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed by clients, a can-do attitude, and a readiness to contribute in what is fundamentally a dynamic startup setting. Reliable transportation is a must.
Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing and delivering STEM curriculum at specific sites/schools or at AREA 21® or the SAMSAT Space and IT Museum.
- Maintain instructional materials necessary for each program session
- Enrich course presentations with visual aids and hands-on activities to engage students
- Ability to be a project manager in educational programs where needed
- Tour guide and other job duties at both the SAMSAT Space and IT Museum and AREA 21®.
- Ability to do event set up as needed.
- Ability to work a varied work schedule
- Work weekend hours as needed for educational programming.
- Work weekend hours at AREA 21® or the SAMSAT Space and IT Museum
- Engage and guide patrons throughout SAMSAT Space and IT Museum and AREA 21®
- Collect data from student feedback
Experience
- Previous experience as an Educational Training Instructor or similar role
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Project Management

Pay: $15.00 per hour
Due to the nature of working with minors, you must be able to pass a background check.
Work in the field
- Roughly 25% in the field work.
- Mainly working at SAMSAT's AREA 21® or the SAMSAT Space and IT Museum, but work locations could be throughout the greater San Antonio area.
Schedule:

- Availability to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with additional days as needed
- Weekends as needed
