The Center for Outpatient Surgery is seeking a dedicated and experienced PAT Registered Nurse to join our outpatient surgery center team.
The Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse is responsible for ensuring the clinical readiness and appropriateness of patients scheduled for procedures in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) through comprehensive preoperative assessment, documentation review, coordination of care, and active participation in onboarding and training activities including staff, vendors, and physician observers.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments including medical, surgical, social/special needs, and medication history
- Identify clinical risks and escalate concerns appropriately
- Ensure completion of required testing, labs, and medical clearances
- Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia, and primary care providers
- Provide patient education including preoperative instructions
- Document all assessments in the EMR system in compliance with regulatory standards
- Onsite availability for operational needs
- Partner with materials manager and SPD lead to coordinate materials needs for cases.
Onboarding & Training Responsibilities:
- Lead onboarding and orientation of new PAT staff as assigned
- Educate new hires on pre-admission workflows, scheduling coordination, and documentation standards
- Provide hands-on training and ongoing support during orientation period
- Coordinate onboarding of vendors and ensure compliance with facility policies, credentialing, and documentation requirements
- Facilitate onboarding of physician observers, including verification of required documentation and adherence to facility guidelines, infection prevention, exposure control and the emergency preparedness plans
- Serve as a point of contact for staff, vendors and observers
- Participate in development and updating of onboarding materials and competencies
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure all onboarding processes meet regulatory and organizational expectations
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for staff
Documentation & Compliance:
- Ensure all pre-admission assessments are complete, accurate, and documented in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Verify required preoperative elements are present prior to surgery, including H&P, testing, and clearances
Quality & Safety:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to surgical readiness and case cancellations
- Identify opportunities to improve patient preparedness and reduce day-of-surgery delays
Qualifications:
- Current RN license (State of New Jersey)
- BLS required, ACLS preferred
- 2–3 years of perioperative or relevant clinical experience preferred
- Experience in ASC and pre-admission testing preferred
Compensation & Benefits:
· Pay Range: $40-$50 an hour
