pay range for Wastewater Operator II = $49,039 - $67,909/annually
Primary Purpose
Performs specialized skilled work in the operation and routine maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and related procedures.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Performs operations, maintenance on equipment and machinery in an activated sludge treatment plant including both conventional and tertiary treatment units including digesters, primary units, secondary units, and filters.

Performs routine daily observations of the wastewater treatment plant.

Performs maintenance tasks at the wastewater treatment plant, including general cleaning, preventative maintenance of equipment and assisting in repairs of equipment and vehicles as needed.

Assists in the preventative maintenance on motors, pumps, generators, engines, air compressors, surface aerators, mixers, screening devices, pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, high speed compressors, turbines, pneumatic operated valves, hydraulic flow meters, automatic electric control devices, chemical feed devices and all other equipment associated with sludge treatment system, conventional and tertiary treatment units.

Maintains records and/or logs of work performed

Collects samples and completes basic laboratory analysis as required.

Operates wastewater sludge truck for the purpose of hauling sludge from the wastewater treatment system to the designated area for spreading.

Assists in the beautification of City grounds.

Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Tools and Equipment Used
All Treatment Plant equipment including but not limited to laboratory equipment, work trucks, mowers, sampling equipment, SCADA systems and various hand and power tools and electrical test equipment.
Physical Demands
Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to lift 60 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 100 pounds; Must have the ability to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
Sensory Demands
Must have full color acuity to be able to distinguish between hose and wire colors to follow schematics, be able to see color differences of various stages of the treatment processes to distinguish potential problems. Must have olfactory sense to aid in the determination of when equipment may be operating at too high of temperature and beginning stages of burning and detect possible operational problems of the treatment system. Must have full sense of touch and feel to detect unnatural vibration. Must have a sense of hearing to distinguish unnatural sounds of equipment and machinery and detect potential problems.
