Soldier’s Best Friend (SBF) is an Arizona-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Peoria.
The Canine Readiness and Foster Coordinator schedules dog veterinary appointments and handles scheduling of behavior evaluations. This role serves as the primary point of contact with our rescue partners (potential dogs that can be used in our program) and veterinary clinics regarding invoice and medical records information. The Readiness Coordinator ensures a seamless transition by coordinating the transport and pickup of dogs to and from fosters to the veterinarian while maintaining accurate records and coordinating resources to support successful dog adoptions. The Canine Readiness and Foster Coordinator works closely with the Program Manager to ensure the quality of dogs entering our Service/Therapeutic Companion Dog Training Program. While providing excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders, this role supports long-term, quality programming to U.S. veterans in Arizona living with military-related Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) while also providing loving homes and meaningful missions to Arizona homeless dogs.
Job Responsibilities
1. Schedule/ track medical appointments, meet-and-greets, and temperament testing;
2. Communicate with rescues and shelters via phone, email, and in person;
3. Coordinate and conduct rescue/shelter visits with a trainer for potential adoption candidates;
4. Maintain databases and records;
5. Coordinate animal availability with shelter staff, foster families, and volunteers;
6. Provide information regarding adoption policies and pet care requirements during orientation;
7. Monitor adoption metrics and prepare status reports;
8. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and animal welfare regulations;
9. Manage foster program (e.g., process applications, schedule and lead foster interviews, home evaluations, foster training sessions, foster progress reporting, etc.);
10. Manage collecting annual dog health forms;
11. Manage kennel facility and dog care on property;
12. Maintain and oversee inventory, submit requests and orders to the appropriate staff member;
13. Admin: phone, recordkeeping, filing, organizing, data entry, graduation/event preparation, other duties as assigned;
14. Represent the organization at all SBF-managed events (e.g., graduation ceremonies, annual events, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Experience in scheduling, customer service, or project management.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in scheduling software and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
- Two years of dog behavior/evaluation experience;
- CGC Evaluator Certification;
- Experience in nonprofit organizations.

Salary Range
$42,000–$45,000 annually, depending on experience and education.
Must have a valid driver’s license and safe, reliable transportation, and be willing to travel within the state of Arizona (up to 25%), with availability during evening/weekend hours (as needed). Work is conducted in both office and animal care environments. Requires the ability to interact safely with animals of various temperaments.
