Position Summary:
Horizon Science Academy is looking for an intervention specialist teacher willing to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year to educate students in grades 6-8. The teacher shall teach up to 30 (thirty) hours per week.
2. Teacher shall prepare classroom to enhance learning and to aid in the physical, social and emotional development of students.
3. Teacher shall control student behavior in agreement with the student handbook.
4. Teacher shall work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom interventions, modifying general education curricular as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
5. Teacher shall participate as a member of Grade Level and Special Education Department as directed by Grade Level Chairperson and Special Education Chairperson or Lead.
6. Teacher shall provide an educational program for students as defined in the student's’ Individual Education Program (IEP) and ongoing data/progress monitoring.
7. Teacher shall communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social and personal needs of the student.
8. Teacher shall assist the special education student in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with those abilities.
9. Teacher shall develop and implement an Individual Educational Program for each child, complimentary to his/her educational strengths and needs as defined through the Evaluation Team Report (ETR) and IEP process, regular education curriculum and as aligned with the Office of Exceptional Children and Ohio Department of Education.
10. Teacher shall complete necessary reports and record keeping as required by the state and district policies and procedures, as well as given by the Special Education Coordinator.
11. Teacher shall ensure necessary and reasonable measures are taken to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
12. Teacher shall protect the confidentiality of records and other documents and comply with applicable student records laws.
13. Teacher shall supervise or organize field trips when assigned.
14. Teacher shall attend all staff meetings, professional development meetings, in-service workshops, higher education, grade chair and department head meetings.
15. Teacher shall create and implement weekly lesson plans along with grades when designated teacher of record. Submit grades for report cards on time.
