Position: K-5 Science Coordinator
Location: District (Elementary Schools)
Broad Function: This position is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and oversight of the Kindergarten through Grade 5
science program to ensure the delivery of high-quality, standards-based science instruction aligned with District goals and
state standards. The position supports curriculum development, instructional improvement, professional learning, STEM
integration, assessment alignment, and equitable access to engaging science learning opportunities for all students.

Compensation: Salary and Benefits per the MFT contract located on the Middletown Schools Website
Responsibilities and Duties:
Essential Functions encompass those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that are critical and fundamental to the job and
comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. They are the major functions for which the person
in the job is held accountable.
1. Coordinates the implementation and continuous improvement of the K–5 science curriculum aligned with District
and state standards, for example PLTW training needs
2. Develops, revises, and maintains K - 5 science curriculum guides, pacing documents, instructional materials, and
support materials aligned with district and state standards.
3. Collaborates with building administration/instructional leaders to ensure consistent curriculum implementation and
instructional practices Kindergarten through Grade 5.
4. Promotes inquiry-based learning, STEM integration, and cross-curricular instructional connections.
5. Provides suggestions for instructional coaching and support to classroom teachers to strengthen science
instruction and student engagement.
6. Models effective instructional practices and research-based science teaching strategies.
7. Engages in collaborative walkthroughs with building administrators/instructional leaders and offers constructive
instructional feedback.
8. Facilitates district-wide and school-based professional learning related to science curriculum, instruction and
assessment implementation.
9. Attends grade level IDT meetings, as needed
10. Coordinates and supports implementation of district and state science assessments.
11. Recommends curriculum resources, instructional materials and implementation support based on data and district
need.
12. In collaboration with the Office of Teaching and Learning, manages science-related budgets, instructional materials,
and equipment procurement processes.
13. Supports building administrators/instructional leaders in ensuring equitable access to science resources and
instructional opportunities across schools.
14. Communicates compliance with district policies, curriculum expectations and applicable safety procedures related
to science instruction.
15. Communicates safety concerns related to science instruction and materials to the Chemical Hygiene Officer in a
timely manner.
16. Collaborates with school administrators, instructional staff, and community organizations to support science
enrichment opportunities.
17. Collaborates with building administrators/curriculum leaders in coordinating district science enrichment
opportunities, science fairs, STEM events, and related student learning experiences.
18. Collaborates with district personnel to support identified students participating in the district’s Talented and Gifted
programming related to science and STEM learning opportunities.
19. Communicates science updates, implementation expectations, available resources and program information to
district stakeholders.
20. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or designee.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Science, or a related field required
Three (3) to five (5) years of successful elementary teaching experience required
Demonstrated experience in science instruction, curriculum development, or instructional leadership preferred
Experience supporting professional development, instructional coaching, or standards implementation preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Connecticut teaching certification required.
Connecticut Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor Certification (092) preferred.
Valid State Driver’s License required.
