Under the direction of the VP of Commercial Banking Eastern Region, the AVP of Spokane Commercial Lending is responsible for directing, managing, and coordinating the commercial loan, business deposit, and cash management functions of their respective team. The AVP will participate in the Gesa Leadership team and provide input on the strategic initiatives of the organization. They will coordinate the business development activities of their team and manage commercial loan relationships. The role will manage a group of lenders, small business development officers, and other staff designated to grow a profitable commercial loan portfolio that is consistent with established policies, guidelines, and procedures. They make commercial loan and cash management exposure decisions according to the MBL Policies and underwriting guidelines. They will be responsible for controlling commercial loan delinquencies and charge-offs and assist in portfolio management to ensure safety and soundness. Ensures the enhancement of commercial loan relationships by cross-selling business deposits and cash management products and services. Projects professional image, exercises independent judgment, and maintains confidentiality with all members and sensitive data.
Maintain a highly qualified staff, sufficient to meet the daily demands of the Credit Union's members
Interview, select, train, evaluate, supervise, schedule, coach and develop team members as needed to provide responsive and professional service to our membership. Note observations of employee performance into appropriate reporting tools, as well as giving and receiving feedback from team members on quarterly basis
Complete performance reviews within the prescribed period
Ensure that the team provides friendly, professional, personal service to all members
Assist the VP in managing the commercial services operations and administering the credit union lending policies and procedures
Prepare credit requests for submission to Loan Committee and approved credit submissions when appropriate
Identify and monitor all MBL loans and provide senior management with regular detailed reports
Establish production goals and provide productions reports to management
Attend credit union training, conferences and seminars, or professional organization events for continued professional growth
Maintain awareness of laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures which impact position duties and responsibilities and ensure team maintains awareness
Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the MBLs and other investor requirements; recommend changes as necessary to the credit union policy manual
Provide recommendations for management of changes to products, loan policies, and procedures by following lending laws and regulations
Oversee financial transactions, such as drawings, advances, disbursements made by Commercial Loan Servicing
Responsible for the business development of commercial loan relationships
Maintain written, telephone and personal contacts
Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of the credit union lending policies and market areas
Maintain historical pricing information, including all indices
Provide basic financial counseling when needed or requested by members
Participate in community activities and business development including, but not limited to, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Realtors and Homebuilders (activities that are industry related.)
Maintain effective communication with all credit union team members to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing Credit Union goals
Maintain and protect all sensitive data utilizing the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism. Consistently display respect for all areas of diversity and levels of knowledge
Display leadership values such as mutual respect, trust and dignity, and act in the best interest of the credit union. Lead by example by displaying solid ethics and integrity at all times
Control risk and operate in a safe and sound manner
Contribute to effective department and credit union operations by performing, special projects and other related duties as assigned
Provide recommendations and process improvements regarding commercial loan activity and processes
Ability to multi-task on numerous projects simultaneously
Ability to communicate effectively and successfully, both orally and in writing
Ability to make quality decisions in a timely manner with extreme attention to detail
Ability to perform required work under limited supervision
Ability to supervise, train and motivate staff
Ability to formulate, implement and administer policies and procedures relating to Member Business loans

Eight (8) to ten (10) years of commercial lending or commercial leadership experience required
Minimum three (3) years managerial/supervisory position within a financial organization desired, preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of specialized courses in business related training or experience would be accepted in lieu of a degree
Five (5) years of experience underwriting commercial loans including commercial real estate loans, agriculture, commercial and industry, and SBA preferred
Eight (8) to ten (10) years professional sales ability required; experience relating to commercial loan products desired
Experience analyzing local and national economic data to assist setting marketing and pricing strategies
Familiarity with SBA loan programs and underwriting requirements
Proficiency with standard office equipment, Excel, MS Word, Outlook, computer software, lending software, and department specific programs
