The Chaplain position provides spiritual, religious, and personal counseling and guidance to residents and family members in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards and regulations. This part-time position works approximately 15 hours/week.
Qualifications:
Must be an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ and be in good standing;
- Must have at least one year of experience in a pastoral ministry with a specific interest in gerontology;
- Must be oriented to health care practices and procedures;
- Must have a minimum of one unit Clinical Pastoral Education;
- Must be knowledgeable about medical-moral issues and the pastoral theology of the health care apostolate;
- Must be able to relate well with a wide variety of people, especially the elderly and those sick and dying.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct department programs consistent with current federal and state regulations and professional standards;
- Assure programmatic relevance to all ability and interest levels;
- Assist in development, administration, and coordination of chaplaincy-related procedures; review and revise annually and as necessary;
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director regarding the chaplaincy program;
- Provide religious services and spiritual activities that meet the individualized spiritual needs of the residents;
- Coordinate and conduct regularly scheduled religious services for residents, family members, and others;
- Plan and maintain a visitation program for all residents;
- Inform the resident's pastor of resident admission and seek her/his assistance in providing spiritual care;
- Review the chaplaincy program and services to assure spiritual objectives are being met and participate in making recommended changes;
- Assist with scheduling of religious programs, services, and sacraments provided by community churches and religious organizations;
- Provide counseling and guidance to residents, families, etc. as necessary;
- Perform or arrange for religious rites consistent with the faith traditions of the resident;
- Represent the organization in a positive manner to the local ministerium and other community organizations;
- Follow the UCC Homes' code of conduct, corporate compliance program, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positivity; and,
- Carry out other duties as necessary and as assigned.
