CHARACTERISTICS OF POSITION: The Youth Sports Manager at Georgetown Scott County Parks & Recreation Dept is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of youth sports programs. This role is crucial in ensuring the effective operation of sports leagues, the coordination of volunteers, and the optimal utilization of field rentals to provide a positive and enriching experience for young athletes in the community.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential: Manage and oversee the daily operations of youth sports leagues, ensuring all programs run smoothly and efficiently.
- Coordinate and schedule volunteers to support various sports events and activities, ensuring adequate staffing and coverage.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the quality and reach of the sports programs offered.
- Manage field rentals, ensuring optimal scheduling and maintenance of facilities to meet the needs of sports leagues and community events.
- Collaborate with coaches, parents, and community stakeholders to promote and enhance youth sports participation.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of sports programs and staff, implementing improvements as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Prepare and manage budgets related to youth sports activities, ensuring financial efficiency and accountability.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all participants, promoting sportsmanship and personal development. Attends additional training as requested by supervisors.
Non-essential: May perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Training, Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration or a closely related field. Experience may be substituted for education. Three years’ experience in Parks and Recreation or related field preferred with at least one of those years in a supervisory position.

Knowledge: - Proven experience in managing sports leagues and related activities.
- Experience in scheduling and coordinating volunteers for events or programs.
- Experience in managing field rentals and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.
Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and people management skills to effectively oversee staff and volunteers.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and schedules efficiently.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and foster a positive team environment.
- Proficiency in using scheduling and management software tools.
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of youth sports and recreational program management.
SPECIAL LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Valid Kentucky driver’s license required.
Must become First Aid, CPR, AED certified within 6 months of hire.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Instructions: Must be able to work within own timeline with minimal instructions daily.
Processes: Must review and improve youth sports efforts and leagues. Help organize volunteer efforts.
Review of Work: Work is reviewed through reports and at weekly meetings.
Analytical Requirements: Decisions based on knowledge and application of techniques/concepts are required.
Work Environment: Inside and outside.
Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule that will include days, nights, and weekends. Work locations include all Park and Recreation facilities.
Physical Demands:
Lifting: Must lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds on a regular basis. Requires stooping, bending, walking, and standing. May work outside in inclement weather.
Use of Equipment: Sports and grounds equipment; other tools and equipment assigned to department.
Vehicle Operation: May operate vehicle; other light, medium equipment assigned to department.
