Church Accompanist
Responsibilities include providing service music for worship and congregational singing, accompanying adult choir and other vocal and instrumental ensembles, and playing for weddings and funerals as schedule allows.
Status: Part Time -
(Sundays and Wednesdays are firm, others are flexible)
Sunday: 8:00 am-10:14pm (2.25 Hours)
Wednesday: 6:00 pm-7:14 pm (1.25 Hours)
Total hours: 3.5 Hours with opportunities to add more as needs arise.
Job Requirements:
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by private or college-level training in piano and music theory and at least two years of experience as an accompanist.
- Proficiency on piano and keyboard.
- Organ skills appreciated but not required.
- Attention to Detail, Collaborative, Innovative.
- Background, reference, and criminal check.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work under supervision of Ministerial Staff and will meet as needed to coordinate in worship and educational planning.
- Collaborate with all types of musicians for all aspects of church music ministry.
- Accompany church choir (6:00 pm - 7:15 pm) at Wednesday evening practices.
- Accompany church choir at 9:00 am service on Sundays (8:00 am - 10:00 am)
- May be asked to lead section rehearsals by playing parts, identifying mistakes and problem areas, correcting mistakes and providing the right notes and rhythms
- Assist with coaching solos and ensembles by arranging or transposing music, teaching notes and rhythm, recognizing and resolving intonation problems, teaching good vocal techniques, providing suggestions regarding interpretation of music and encouraging music members.
- Assist by leading rehearsals as necessary.
- Participate in the occasional additional services and special music events throughout the church year as well as rehearsals as schedule allows, with a particular focus on Easter and Christmas.
- Assist with locating and selecting musicians as necessary for cantatas and special worship events.
- Maintain a regular practice schedule for the development of skills.
- Have the right of refusal to play for wedding and funeral services at the church, in which case, additional compensation is involved.
