Salary: $45,000–$50,000 annually (DOE)

Key Responsibilities
- Facilities, Grounds Maintenance & Stewardship Technician
- Routine inspections — buildings, trails, fences, irrigation, vehicles, and equipment
- Preventive maintenance to extend the life of facilities and tools
- Minor carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical troubleshooting
- Landscaping, gardens, native plantings, outdoor classrooms
- Operation and care of mowers, trimmers, utility vehicles, trailers, and power tools
- Monitoring facility conditions and recommending improvements
Wildlife Habitat & Exhibit Support
- Maintenance of Raptor habitats, aviaries, enclosures, and educational exhibits
- Collaboration with hospitality and education teams
- Improvements that support animal welfare and visitor experience
Stewardship & Land Management
- Habitat restoration, invasive species control, and erosion mitigation
- Trail sustainability and natural resource management
- Promoting responsible recreation and environmental stewardship
Safety, Security & Risk Management
- Safety inspections of trails, playgrounds, exhibits, and public areas
- Hazard identification and correction
- Maintenance of emergency equipment (AEDs, extinguishers, signage)
- Opening/closing procedures and site security monitoring
- Support for emergency response and storm recovery
Fleet, Equipment & Asset Management
- Inspections and maintenance coordination for vehicles, tractors, power tools
- Service records and maintenance schedules
- Inventory tracking and equipment recommendations
Volunteer & Community Engagement
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and community groups
- Provide safety briefings and project oversight
- Track volunteer hours and project accomplishments
Visitor Services & Public Stewardship
- Serve as a welcoming, knowledgeable presence for visitors
- Provide information on trails, wildlife, facilities, and guidelines
- Support protection of natural resources and educational spaces
Capital Projects & Contractor Coordination
- Assist with planning and implementing facility improvements
- Serve as point of contact for contractors
- Obtain quotes, monitor work, verify completion
Operational Support
- Event setup/breakdown, program support, fundraising activities
- Snow removal, storm cleanup, weather-related prep
- Maintain records, work orders, inventories, and documentation
Organizational Leadership
- Model professionalism, safety, stewardship, and teamwork
- Represent NWDC positively with visitors, partners, and donors
- Contribute to long-term organizational improvement
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years in facilities, grounds, landscaping, parks, or related trades
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and safe operating practices
- Ability to work independently
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Valid Colorado driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on uneven terrain, climb ladders, operate equipment, and work outdoors year-round
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in parks, recreation, conservation, environmental education, zoological, or
- nonprofit settings
- Volunteer coordination experience
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid/AED, chainsaw, pesticide applicator, etc.
- Knowledge of Colorado native plants, wildlife, and habitat management
Work Environment
- This role includes indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions, physical labor, trail walking,
- equipment operation, and occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or emergency callouts.
