Position Summary
We have a contract opportunity with our client in Benton Harbor for a Construction Coordinator to support utility distribution projects by coordinating construction activities, contractors, and internal teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This position is primarily office-based but requires regular visits to field locations and active construction sites to monitor progress, support crews, and resolve project-related issues.
The ideal candidate will have experience within the electric utility industry. Previous hands-on experience working with distribution line crews is highly preferred but not required. Candidates should be comfortable interpreting technical information, collaborating with multiple stakeholders, and supporting field operations.
Training will be provided on reading and interpreting Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) data, making this an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong utility background looking to expand their technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate construction and field activities with internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
- Support the planning, scheduling, and execution of utility construction and maintenance projects.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor project progress, verify work quality, and address issues as they arise.
- Analyze technical information and assist with resolving operational and construction-related challenges.
- Participate in outage planning and project coordination activities.
- Review and interpret utility-related documentation and project data.
- Learn to read and analyze AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) data to support project execution and operational decisions.
- Communicate effectively with field personnel, engineering, contractors, customers, and leadership.
- Assist in making technical recommendations and contribute to team decision-making.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members when appropriate.
- Promote safe work practices while supporting reliable electric service and environmental stewardship.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an Associate's degree in a technical discipline with relevant experience.
- Experience in the electric utility industry.
- Strong understanding of utility operations, construction, or maintenance practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
Preferred
- Previous experience working on electric distribution line crews.
- Experience coordinating utility construction or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with distribution operations and field construction activities.
- Ability to interpret contracts, technical documentation, and operational data.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with frequent travel to field and construction sites.
- Positions available in Niles, Michigan and Fort Wayne, IN.
- Requires occasional work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active utility construction environments.
Pay: From $38.00 per hour
