Location: Rochester, NY (relocation assistance available)
Compensation: $140,000 - $200,000 per year (DOE)
Overview:
A growing renewable energy organization is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the development and execution of utility-scale and community solar projects. This role is ideal for a hands-on, self-sufficient engineer who can take ownership of electrical design and coordination efforts from concept through execution.
This position will operate as an individual contributor and serve as the internal subject matter expert for electrical engineering, working closely with external partners and third-party engineering firms.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop initial electrical designs and layouts using PVAssist or similar solar design software

Prepare and review redline drawings, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements

Collaborate with and oversee third-party engineering firms on detailed design deliverables

Support interconnection processes with utilities, including documentation and coordination as needed

Provide technical expertise across project lifecycle including feasibility, design, and construction support

Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements

Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, workflows, and design efficiency
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred

Proven experience in solar energy projects, with preference for community solar or utility-scale projects (residential-only experience is less applicable)

Experience with PVsyst or comparable solar design tools

Familiarity with interconnection processes and utility coordination is a strong plus

Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities as a standalone engineering resource

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across internal and external teams
