Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide high-quality, patient-centered emergency medical care under the supervision and collaboration of the Medical Director or supervising physician(s), in accordance with applicable state law, facility policies, and established clinical protocols. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries across all age groups in a free-standing emergency department.
The APP collaborates closely with emergency physicians, nursing staff, radiology, laboratory personnel, and ancillary staff to deliver efficient, evidence-based emergency care while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for patients presenting with emergent and urgent medical conditions.
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients across the lifespan, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
- Order, perform, and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests, electrocardiograms, and diagnostic imaging.
- Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical findings and current evidence-based practice.
- Perform emergency procedures within the scope of licensure and credentialing,
- Initiate appropriate medications, intravenous therapies, and emergency interventions.
- Recognize critically ill or injured patients requiring physician consultation, transfer, or higher levels of care.
- Stabilize patients requiring transfer to an acute care hospital.
- Consult with supervising physicians regarding complex patient presentations and treatment decisions.
- Document all patient encounters accurately, completely, and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary patient care activities and quality improvement initiatives.
- Comply with EMTALA requirements and all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist during disaster response and mass casualty events as needed.
Required Qualifications
Education
Physician Assistant
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Master's degree preferred.
Nurse Practitioner
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing.
Licensure and Certification
Must possess and maintain:
- Current Texas Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license
- National certification appropriate to specialty
- Current DEA registration
- Current Texas Controlled Substance Registration (if applicable)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or equivalent trauma education preferred
Experience
Preferred:
- Minimum of one to three years of Emergency Medicine experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Experience in an emergency department, urgent care, trauma center, or critical care setting preferred.
- Experience treating patients of all ages.
