Job Summary
The Automotive Bookkeeper is responsible for managing financial transactions and maintaining accurate accounting records for the dealership. This role supports dealership operations by handling accounts payable/receivable, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting specific to vehicle sales, service, body shop and parts departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and maintain daily financial transactions for vehicle sales, service, body shop, and parts departments
- Process accounts payable (vendor invoices, flooring expenses, inventory purchases)
- Manage accounts receivable, including customer payments and financing transactions
- Reconcile bank accounts, dealership statements, and manufacturer accounts
- Post vehicle deals into the accounting system and verify deal accuracy (gross, fees, commissions)
- Track and reconcile inventory, including new and used vehicles
- Assist with payroll processing, including commissions for sales staff
- Prepare monthly financial statements and assist with closing processes
- Maintain compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, and tax regulations
- Work closely with the Controller, Fixed Operations Manager, and Sales Managers
- Assist with audits and provide documentation for tax filings
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance preferred)
- 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (automotive dealership experience strongly preferred)
- Knowledge of automotive accounting processes (deal posting, flooring, inventory accounting)
- Experience with dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds) is a plus
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
