Position Summary
The Compressor Tank Tester is responsible for performing pressure, leak testing on air compressor tanks to ensure they meet manufacturing specifications, industry codes, and regulatory standards (e.g., Eaton Compressor, ASME, DOT) prior to building into an assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests on compressor tanks according to established procedures and safety protocols
- Inspect tanks for welding defects, leaks, corrosion, dents, weld splatter and other structural issues
- Operate and calibrate testing equipment (pressure gauges, leak detectors, hydrostatic test stands)
- Record test results accurately in logs, or QA software
- Identify and tag non-conforming units; document defects and route for rework or scrap
- Verify tank stamps, serial numbers, and compliance labels match required specifications
- Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements, given the pressurized nature of the work
- Maintain and troubleshoot test equipment, report malfunctions to maintenance
- Support internal and third-party audits (e.g., ASME "U" or "R" stamp inspections) by providing accurate test documentation
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to address recurring quality issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe testing area
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing, quality control, or mechanical testing environment (compressor, pressure vessel, or tank testing experience preferred)
- Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work around pressurized equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hydrostatic/pneumatic testing equipment
- Forklift
- Prior experience in manufacturing facility
Work Environment
- Manufacturing/production floor setting
- Exposure to low level noise, pressurized systems, and moving machinery
- PPE required (safety glasses, & steel-toed boots)
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
