Position Summary
The Dietary Manager is responsible for the overall management and functional operations of the hospital’s Dietary Department. This position provides direct supervision of departmental activities, ensures compliance with hospital policies and applicable standards and regulations, supports staff development, and maintains a high standard of quality in dietary services provided to patients, staff, medical personnel, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise the daily functions and activities of the Dietary Department.
- Manage departmental operations to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality food and nutrition services.
- Interpret and communicate hospital policies, departmental procedures, standards, and applicable regulations to employees, patients, Medical Staff, and the public.
- Ensure dietary services comply with applicable health care, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of food and dietary services provided.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Dietary Department staff.
- Evaluate employee performance and identify opportunities for training, professional development, and improvement.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, workflow, and departmental organization as needed.
- Promote effective communication and teamwork within the department and with other hospital departments.
- Address operational issues and implement appropriate corrective or improvement measures.
- Support a patient-centered approach to dietary services.
- Maintain appropriate departmental documentation and records.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by hospital leadership.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) course or equivalent recognized dietary management certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years of management experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hospital or health care environment.
- Ability to understand and apply departmental policies, standards, procedures, and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous management experience in a hospital, health care, food service, or dietary services environment.
- Educational or professional background in nutrition or dietetics.
- Experience with food safety, sanitation, regulatory compliance, and health care dietary operations.
- Experience supervising and developing dietary or food-service staff.

Work Environment
This is a full-time position within a hospital dietary services environment. The position requires regular interaction with employees, patients, Medical Staff, hospital leadership, and members of the public. No regular travel is required.
