HWL Lead Technician
Position General Description
Under the direct supervision of Processing Supervisor, the Hot Wheel Hourly Lead will serve as the liaison between supervision and the hourly workforce and is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Hot Wheel Line operations. Although the supervisor will listen to and respect the opinions of the Team Lead, administration of formal discipline is not in the scope of this position.
Knowledge and Skills (general)
Organizational/Leadership Component – Qualified candidates will possess basic math skills, strong computer literacy, ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work. Lead must be able to provide direction to others, coordinate and oversee activity, and provide performance feedback to favorably influence outcomes. This individual must be capable of monitoring and ensuring safety, quality and throughput performance. The Hot Wheel Lead must possess strong mechanical competencies or aptitudes and previous experience running machining-type equipment is a plus. Best qualified candidates will have a proven history in the operation of grinding and hub cutting type equipment and experience in the operation/programming of CNC tools.
Nature and Scope of the Inspection and Finishing Lead
Under the supervision and direction of the Processing Supervisor, the Inspection and Finishing Lead is responsible for the following;
- Safety - Help ensure safe working conditions and behaviors, support all safety programs inclusive of Behavioral Observations and Reinforcing Acts of Safety, ensure employees follow established protocol, make certain needed PPE is available and used, review Safety checklist.
- Leadership – a) logical thinking, self starting, and organized, respectful of others, b) reasonably strong oral and written communication skills, c) able to manage multiple priorities, d) provide direction and understanding/communicating process flow, e) monitor employee performance and qualifications while providing proactive and appropriate feedback, capable of gaining respect and training/leading others.
- Technical – a) possess basic math skills and related competencies to ensure the ability to assist with process control and evaluation of records, b) basic computer skills and ability to utilize equipment controlled by PLC, c) ability to understand and operate all related equipment, inclusive of forklifts, wheel cleaning, milling machines and various hand tools. Must also be able to read, interpret and make logic decisions relating to measurements with various tooling measuring devices.
- Job Duty/Task Related – Coordinates supplies and maintains as necessary to ensure adequate production Must be able to work and communicate cross functionally between Processing and Production personnel to assess conditions and respond to changing needs associated with the coordination of production, holding ovens, kan bans and Hot Wheel Line. Must effectively interact with Maintenance personnel in order to minimize and/or eliminate down time, serve as trainer and back up for all jobs in the department such as hub cutter, hot wheel grinder, and heat treat operator
- Physical Demands - The individual holding this position must be able to relieve and work in all the various positions within the department. The Hot Wheel Lead must be able to perform heavy work, lifting up to seventy pounds, walk across uneven surfaces, climb steps and ladders, work in a hot and dirty environment, and work long or extended hours/shifts/days with little advance notice.
- Cognitive Abilities - The Hot Wheel Lead must be of reasonable intelligence, possess basic math skills, be capable of reading gauges and charts and understanding/applying basic statistical process control, use a computer to monitor and maintain process information. Organized thought process, having the ability to manage multiple priorities, and correlate to needed inventory levels to process demands.
