Stoneworx has been fabricating and installing stone on Detroit's east side for over thirty years. We are family-owned, based in St. Clair Shores, and the owner, Ray, is still on the floor every day.
We do not sub anything out. Every job that leaves this shop was templated, cut, polished, and installed by our own crew. That is not a line for the website, it is the entire business model. It means when you cut a piece, your name is on it, there is nobody downstream to blame and nobody upstream to hide behind.
We would rather do one job right than three jobs fast. Thirty years of Grosse Pointe referrals came from exactly that. So the person we hire has to care about a tight seam the same way we do. If you take pride in a clean miter that nobody but another fabricator would even notice, you will fit here.
What you will actually be doing
- Running the bridge saw — rips, miters, sink and cooktop cutouts, in granite, marble, quartz, and quartzite
- Waterjet for cutouts and detail work
- Edge polishing — eased, ogee, bullnose — whatever the job calls for
- Hand work — grinding, seam prep, and finish work by hand
- Riding along on the occasional install so you see how your work lands in somebody's kitchen
Here is what it is not. You are not a set of hands on somebody else's line. This is a small shop, you read the drawing, set up the cut, and make the call yourself. Nobody is going to stand over your shoulder, and nobody is going to stick you with the demo and cleanup because you are the new guy.
We buy good blades. We keep the machines running. If something is wrong with the equipment you tell Ray and it gets handled — you are not fighting a worn-out segment for three weeks waiting on somebody in an office to sign off.
What you need
- 3+ years fabricating stone. You can walk in and run a bridge saw without a babysitter.
- You can read a drawing and work off a template
- You take care of tools that are not yours
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- You show up. Monday morning. Every Monday.
Helpful but not required: waterjet or CNC experience, install experience, your own hand tools.
