The Continuing Education Nursing Assistant Instructor is a contract, on-site teaching role based in St Paul, MN. The instructor may teach at Century College or at the site at White Bear Lake High School. This instructor delivers high-quality classroom and lab instruction to nursing assistant students, following approved curricula and aligning with state and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, demonstrating clinical skills, supervising practice in lab and clinical settings, and assessing learner performance through quizzes, skills checklists, and competency evaluations. The role involves providing clear feedback, maintaining accurate records of attendance and grades, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment, and collaborating with program staff to support student success. The instructor also participates in orientation and periodic training, stays current on best practices in nursing assistant education, and represents Century College's values of equity, professionalism, and community engagement.
Qualifications
- Clinical expertise in nursing or related health care field, including direct patient care experience and familiarity with long-term care and acute care settings.
- Experience teaching, precepting, or mentoring learners in clinical or classroom environments, with skill in facilitating hands-on skills practice and competency evaluation.
- Strong knowledge of nursing assistant scope of practice, infection control, safety procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations for nursing assistant training.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills to support diverse adult learners and foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment.
- Ability to design and deliver clear lesson plans, use educational technology, and adapt teaching methods to various learning styles.
- Current professional licensure or certification appropriate to the role (e.g., Registered Nurse license in Minnesota) and qualifications meeting state requirements for nursing assistant instructors.
- Experience working in community or technical college settings, or with continuing education programs, is beneficial.
