We are seeking a dependable, proactive, and safety-focused Safety Specialist to support our construction operations across Oklahoma and North Texas. Reporting to the Safety Director, this position will work closely with field employees, supervisors, and management to promote a strong safety culture, identify and correct workplace hazards, investigate incidents, coordinate safety training, and help ensure compliance with company policies and applicable safety regulations.
The Safety Specialist will assist the Safety Director with the development and implementation of safety protocols, policies, procedures, training programs, and company-wide safety standards. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in active heavy civil construction environments, communicates effectively with employees at all levels, and takes a hands-on approach to preventing workplace incidents and injuries.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred to support effective communication, training, and engagement with our workforce.

Assist the Safety Director in developing, implementing, and maintaining company safety protocols, policies, procedures, manuals, and guidelines.

Promote and reinforce Overland Corporation's safety policies, procedures, and expectations across assigned projects and operations.

Conduct routine job site safety inspections, observations, and audits to identify hazardous conditions, unsafe work practices, and opportunities for improvement.

Initiate and assist with implementing corrective and preventative safety measures in work areas.

Conduct thorough investigations of workplace incidents, accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage to determine contributing factors and ensure required policies and procedures were followed.

Prepare accurate incident documentation and recommend corrective actions to help prevent recurrence.

Educate employees on safe work practices and assist with coordinating employee safety orientations, training programs, daily safety meetings, and weekly toolbox talks.

Assist with the preparation and delivery of safety training materials and programs for both small and large groups.

Collaborate with department heads, project managers, supervisors, and field personnel to implement and improve safety processes.

Assist field teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and other job-specific safety requirements.

Monitor and support compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, DOL, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.

Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and assist with the distribution and management of safety equipment.

Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, incident reports, and other required safety information.

Communicate safety requirements clearly and professionally with employees, supervisors, subcontractors, management, and other project personnel.

Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive employee, incident, company, and safety information.

Maintain continuous awareness of personnel, equipment, and job-site activities to identify and address potential hazards.

Travel regularly to active job sites throughout Oklahoma and North Texas.

Must be available to respond to accidents, incidents, and other urgent safety matters outside normal working hours as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Safety Director.

Must have a valid driver's license with a positive driving history.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Knowledge of construction safety practices, procedures, hazard recognition, and incident prevention.

Working knowledge of OSHA and other applicable construction safety regulations.

Ability to maintain an in-depth knowledge of laws and regulations affecting construction safety and assist with implementing corresponding company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Understanding of personal protective equipment (PPE), job hazard analysis, incident investigation, corrective actions, and safe work practices.

Knowledge of heavy civil construction, asphalt paving, roadway construction, or related operations preferred.

Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations, scheduling, and other common business software.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain safety requirements and positively influence safe work behaviors.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Previous experience in environmental or occupational health and safety, construction safety, heavy civil construction, asphalt paving, roadway construction, or a related industry preferred.

Relevant safety experience and an established record of success may be considered in place of preferred educational qualifications.

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred.

First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

Ability to work around uneven terrain, moving equipment, roadway construction, and active traffic environments.

Ability to hear and communicate effectively in active construction environments.

Ability to conduct safety training and speak effectively in front of both small and large groups.

Must maintain the mental and visual alertness necessary to monitor personnel, equipment, and job-site activities.

Moderate physical effort is required, including frequently lifting or moving materials weighing less than 25 lbs. and occasionally lifting heavier materials weighing over 60 lbs.

Comfortable working outdoors in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.

Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and safety boots.
Travel within Oklahoma and North Texas is required.
