Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Payroll & Benefits Manager to lead our payroll processing, benefits administration, and HR compliance initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and a comprehensive understanding of HR systems. In this role, you will own payroll operations and the 401(k) program across all of our Washington locations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing. This position is ideal for someone with strong knowledge of payroll regulations and experience managing payroll in a multi-unit environment. An understanding of commission and tip-based compensation is essential.

Responsibilities
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process using systems such as ADP, Workday, and Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in payroll disbursements.
- Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, workers' compensation, and other fringe benefits, maintaining compliance with applicable laws like HIPAA and FMLA, including year-end compliance.
- Handle confidential information with integrity while managing sensitive employee data related to payroll, benefits, and legal documentation.
- Negotiate contracts with benefit providers and vendors to optimize offerings for employees while controlling costs.
- Conduct data analysis to identify trends or discrepancies in payroll or benefits data; prepare reports for management review.
- Manage payroll taxes, withholdings, and deductions in compliance with federal, state, and local law.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and maintain accurate records; audit timekeeping and employee data.
- Prepare and submit payroll reports, tax filings, and year-end documentation (W-2).
- Serve as system administrator for the HRIS and payroll platform (ADP) in partnership with HR and Accounting.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Establish and maintain internal controls; monitor and implement changes to payroll and commission-based compensation.
- Lead continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.
Experience
- 3+ years of payroll experience in a multi-entity environment.
- Experience with payroll systems (ADP preferred).
- Strong understanding of multi-location payroll, taxes, and compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of commission and tip-based pay structures; beauty industry experience a plus.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and work independently to deadlines.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
