About the Role
Chapman, Dowling & Mallek is seeking an attorney with strong federal civil practice experience to join our growing team. This role is well suited for an attorney who has handled matters in federal court, is comfortable managing complex litigation tasks, and can work independently in a sophisticated legal practice.
Location is flexible. The attorney may work remotely if located outside of Detroit, Michigan, or Charlotte, North Carolina. Attorneys located near either of our physical offices may work in person from our Detroit or Charlotte office.

Preferred Qualifications
- Meaningful experience in federal civil practice.
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other litigation filings.
- Familiarity with federal court procedure, case management, and litigation strategy.
- Prior civil experience with a United States Attorney's Office, Department of Justice component, or similar government litigation role.
- Admission to practice in one or more of the following jurisdictions is preferred: Texas, Florida, New York, or California.
- Strong research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent judgment, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and clients.
Responsibilities
- Handling federal civil litigation matters from investigation through resolution.
- Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, discovery requests, discovery responses, and correspondence.
- Conducting legal research and analyzing complex federal civil issues.
- Managing litigation deadlines and federal court filings.
- Participating in case strategy, client communications, negotiations, hearings, and other litigation-related proceedings.
- Working collaboratively with attorneys and staff across the firm's offices and remote team.
Location and Work Arrangement
This position may be remote, depending on the attorney's location. Candidates located in or near Detroit, Michigan, or Charlotte, North Carolina may work from one of the firm's physical offices.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be aligned with billed hours. Quarterly bonuses are available based on performance and leadership discretion.
