American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and a valid MO or compact RN license, with night shift rotation across multiple ICUs.

Short-term acute care hospital setting
-
Critical Care Float role rotating across multiple ICUs including Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac/Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Medicine, and COVID units
-
May also float to inpatient floors (Oncology, Neurology, Med/Surg, Medicine, Trauma, Heart and Vascular, COVID) when ICU census is low
-
ICU patient ratio is 2:1; inpatient floor ratio is no more than 1:3
-
May occasionally be utilized as a patient sitter when needed

Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
-
Every other weekend required with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus holiday rotation

Charting system: Epic (experience preferred)

Specific procedures required: ventilator management, IV starts, telemetry, and conscious sedation
-
Preferred skills include Swan-Ganz/hemodynamic interpretation, IABP, Impella, ECMO, vasoactive drips, CRRT, triage, ICP monitoring, PA lines, and Level 1 Trauma experience

CVICU-specific experience is not required

Active MO RN license or compact RN license valid in Missouri required at time of consideration

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, plus at least 1 year of CV ICU experience

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Proficiency with ventilators, IV starts, telemetry, and conscious sedation

Preferred certifications: CCRN, ONS, TNCC, CPI, and chemo certification

Epic EMR experience preferred

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Nurses must be strong, independent clinicians comfortable floating across multiple ICU environments

Scrub color: Navy Blue

RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation

Travelers may remain for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
-
Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
