This is supervisory work in providing case management and counseling services to residents in a correctional facility. Incumbents supervise Correctional Counselors and related support staff engaged in the monitoring, directing, and developing programs or making recommendations concerning parole eligibility for residents in an institution.
Job Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Manages a caseload of assigned residents. Assists residents with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning, and reintegration into the community. Utilizes and demonstrates proficiency in risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies. Consults with other unit team staff, work detail supervisors, program staff, and security staff in preparation of residents’ reviews, Reentry Plans, and work release/pre-release applications. Formulates recommendations to supervisor personnel consistent with residents’ program needs and custody. Ensures program placement when appropriate. Manages a caseload of assigned residents. Maintains electronic resident files with timely and accurate documentation in Athena. Residents’ needs are assessed using Reception and Diagnostic Unit (RDU) evaluations, LSI-R scores, and program treatment summaries. Such contacts are to be recorded in the case plan and/or chronological records in Athena to document the conversation, further action, and method for follow-up. Documents observed changes in behavior which may impact programming and take corrective action.
Assists the Unit Team Manager in ensuring policy and procedures are being followed in the living unit. Assists the Unit Team Manager in making various inspections of the living unit and ensuring any deficiencies are corrected. Serves as the Unit Team Manager in his/her absence.

Minimum Qualifications: Four years direct experience in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and one year of experience working with offenders in corrections, parole, or law enforcement.
Licensing & Certification: Have a valid driver's license
Preferred Education: A Bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences.

Selection Process: Applicants selected for an interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior-based interview questions. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval. A second interview may be conducted. Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver’s License.
