Job Description
The Team Leader assists with clinical supervision of patient care and job performance supervision of all employees on an assigned shift. Plans, coordinates and provides for optimum patient care on the unit. Performs professional nursing services for patients with a variety of needs utilizing the nursing process and within the scope, ethics, and standards of practice as defined by the American Nurses Association and the California BRN Nurse Practice Act.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivers a high level of care through the utilization of scientific knowledge and professional judgment when assessing, intervening and reassessing a patient’s physiological and psychosocial needs.
Establishes an individualized, comprehensive and measurable plan of care based upon knowledge of growth and development, pathophysiology, surgical interventions, psychosocial needs, physician-prescribed therapies, and standards of care.
Performs nursing skills safely, accurately, and efficiently, as defined in SHC NC Policies & Procedures and in accordance with Evidenced Based Practice and within the scope of licensure.
Demonstrates open, accurate and timely communication with team members, patients and families, interdisciplinary team members, and between departments to ensure effective therapeutic interventions.
Maintains competency, adheres to standards of practice, and recognizes own learning needs to maximize professional development and optimal nursing practice.
Ensures patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards and SHC policy.
Applies excellent communication and teamwork skills to maintain successful working relationships with team members. Listens effectively. Builds appropriate rapport. Uses diplomacy and tact.
Establishes clear responsibilities and expectations for employees, hold employees accountable and provide proper coaching. Promotes cooperation with other work units. Ensures team members are treated fairly and encourages teamwork behaviors.
Identifies the number and level of personnel needed to provide patient care and adjusts staffing and assignments appropriately, based on CA ratio requirements, patient acuity, skill mix, and patient mix.
Exercises independent judgments in making patient assignments and adjusts these assignments based on the competencies of the healthcare professional, patient acuity, continuity of care, and environmental factors.
Evaluates the skills of other staff prior to delegating duties.
Ensures all required breaks are taken and appropriately recorded by staff.
Ensures that nursing and departmental staff provides FOCUSED patient care.
Collaborates effectively and timely with other disciplines of the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and quality patient care.
Promotes a learning and Just Culture environment. Trains, leads, and motivates staff to ensure compliance with SHC policy and regulatory standards and in alignment with professional nursing standards. Assesses staff educational needs in an ongoing fashion.
Required Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
3 or more years of Registered Nurse experience
At least 1 year of Leadership experience
1 year of Pediatric experience
1 year Critical Care experience
The pay range for this position is $62.14 - $120.40. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
