Family-Led Autism Collective (FLAC) operates on simple but powerful insight: the family is the most valuable and most underutilized asset in a child’s autism treatment journey. Through our program, we provide direct financial support to families nationwide, tied to engagement and adherence to their child’s treatment plan rather than financial need alone.
As FLAC grows, we are building a Board of Directors that reflects the full ecosystem around our mission. Our single greatest need right now is fundraising capacity, and this role plays a key part of that effort. This role brings personal financial capacity and philanthropic credibility to elevate FLAC’s fundraising circle.
About this Role
The Philanthropic Board Member brings personal financial capacity and philanthropic credibility to FLAC’s Board - whether through personal wealth, a family foundation, or a demonstrated track record of major giving. This individual helps elevate FLAC’s fundraising circle by modeling significant personal generosity, opening doors to other high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and family foundations, and lending philanthropic credibility that helps attract additional major donors and institutional funders.
This is one of the most fundraising-critical roles on our Board today, as FLAC works to diversify and scale its funding base beyond grants alone.
Key Responsibilities
- Make a significant, personally meaningful annual financial contribution to FLAC, setting an example for Board-wide giving
- Introduce FLAC to your personal or family foundation’s network of philanthropists, HNWIs, and major donors
- Champion FLAC in philanthropic circles - donor salons, giving circles, family office networks, and peer foundations
- Advise on major gift strategy, planned giving, and potential foundation grant opportunities aligned with your networks
- Participate in and help host cultivation events, donor briefings, and stewardship activities for major donors
- Provide strategic counsel on fundraising campaigns, capital initiatives, or endowment-building efforts as FLAC matures
- Uphold fiduciary and legal duties of nonprofit board service (duty of care, loyalty, and obedience)
What We’re Looking For
- Personal wealth, a family foundation, or demonstrated capacity for significant charitable giving
- An established or growing philanthropic network - individual donors, family offices, foundations, or giving circles
- Comfort making personal asks and opening introductions on FLAC’s behalf
- Prior board or major-donor committee experience is a plus, but not required
Fundraising & Giving Expectations
- FLAC maintains a 100% Board giving policy. For this role specifically, we expect a “give and get” posture: a personally significant financial gift each year, combined with active help securing gifts from your network. There is no fixed minimum dollar figure at this time - we will work with you individually to set a target that reflects your capacity and the impact you want to have.
- This role is expected to be among FLAC’s top champions for major gift cultivation and, over time, capital or endowment campaigns.
Term Length: 2 years, renewable for additional terms upon mutual agreement and Board approval
Compensation: Unpaid, volunteer position
Time Commitment: Approximately 6-10 hours per month, consistent with typical engaged-board norms. This includes quarterly full Board meetings (virtual), occasional email/e-votes between meetings, and periodic strategy or fundraising activities.
Reporting Line: Reports to the Board Chair and partners closely with the Development team.
Shared Board Responsibilities
- Attend and prepare for quarterly Board meetings (approximately 4 per year)
- Review meeting materials in advance and participate actively in discussions and decision-making
- Act in the best interest of FLAC and its mission, avoiding conflicts of interest
- Support and help evaluate the Executive Director
- Champion FLAC’s mission publicly and help build awareness of our work
