Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and comfort.
- Take and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration under the supervision of nursing staff, ensuring proper documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide specialized care for patients with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other memory impairments, utilizing techniques like memory care strategies and aseptic techniques.
- Operate equipment such as Hoyer lifts and assist with safe manual handling practices to prevent injury during patient transfers.
- Document patient observations meticulously in medical records, ensuring clarity and accuracy for ongoing treatment plans.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and social workers to deliver comprehensive patient-centered care.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program; active state license required.
- Prior experience working in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities, or home care environments preferred.
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with medical terminology and documentation standards.
- Experience caring for geriatric patients or individuals with chronic conditions like dementia or infectious diseases is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques; physical stamina to stand, walk, and assist patients throughout shifts.
- CPR and basic life support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications like phlebotomy or hospice care are a plus.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate approach to patient service; ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
