Purpose and role of job:
Responsible for calculating accurate tallies of finished goods and raw materials and supplying them to production as needed. This hybrid role combines forklift operation, inventory handling, and CDL-A trailer movement between facilities. The role requires precision in inventory documentation, safe and efficient trailer handling (including backing into tight dock spaces), and maintaining accurate yard records. Tasks include using forklifts with specialized attachments and performing warehouse functions to support daily operations. The individual must demonstrate flexibility, safety awareness, and attention to detail in all activities.
Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
Material Handling Duties:
· Load and unload material to and from customer or storage with accuracy.
· Operate forklifts equipped with box clamps, roll clamps, and carpet poles.
· Utilize pallet jacks and manual jacks as needed.
· Use RF scanners to track inventory movement, conduct barcode scans, and perform physical inventories
· Maintain good housekeeping and safe practices in all warehouse areas.
· Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies and communicate with inventory specialists.
· Follow FIFO principles to ensure proper inventory rotation.
Driving and Yard Duties:
· Operate the company’s yard truck to shuttle trailers between the 101GMR and 69GMR sites.
· Safely back trailers into dock doors and unhook/hook trailers as needed.
· Update the Yard Management System with trailer locations for tracking and logistics coordination.
· Drive on public roads and within company property in all weather conditions.
· Ensure traffic flow and yard safety are maintained for efficient operations.
Other Duties:
· Accurately complete DOT logs, internal reports, and job-related documentation.
· Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
· Report any equipment issues or safety concerns immediately to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel.
· Participate in training and complete LMS/work instruction requirements.
· Perform additional tasks and support cross-functional warehouse duties as assigned.
Education and experience requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Valid Class A CDL required; prior CDL-A driving experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card.
· Must have a valid driver’s license with no infractions.
· Knowledge of warehouse product codes and materials handling.
· Ability to operate a forklift and related warehouse equipment.
· Strong mathematical and communication (verbal and written) skills.
· Able to work both independently and in a team environment.
· Capable of operating RF equipment and computer systems.
· LMS/work instruction certifications must be current and complete.
Work Environment:
The role requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Tasks include driving, climbing into day cabs, and walking across yard and dock areas. Safety compliance and use of proper equipment are mandatory at all times.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to climb safely into and out of truck cabs and motorized equipment.
· Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Bend, kneel, reach, and use hands/arms for connections and manual trailer operations.
· Must meet DOT physical standards and maintain hearing and vision capabilities.
· Tolerate hot and cold temperatures and all weather-related environments.
