JOB
OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE
This position performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks associated with the maintenance of the city's streets and surface water infrastructure. The position operates a wide range of motorized and non-motorized equipment and tools, performs inspections and maintenance on various city assets as assigned. Performs snow/ice removal on city streets and also assists other divisions when assigned.
PAY
Expected Hiring Range: $64,168-$70,116 annually
Full Salary Range: $64,168-$92,310 annually
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Street/Surface Water Foreman
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform required maintenance duties including:
-
Repair, patch and pave city streets, trails and parking lots.

Repair and maintain storm water utility infrastructure.

Responsible for snow and ice control as assigned on a plow route.

Installation and maintenance of roadway signs.
-
Assure proper operation of street and signal lights and components.

Maintain boulevard grass and weed control.
-
Tree trimming, removal and disposal.
-
Maintains and inspects storm sewer catch basins, ponds and drainage ways for proper working order.

Other assigned duties as assigned.

Operate and assist in the repair of vehicles and equipment used to perform assigned duties.

Perform assorted assignments within the public works area as needed to ensure the safety and protection of City residents and their property.

Responsible to work overtime, shift changes, or be on call as necessary or assigned.

The ability to locate underground City owned utilities, i.e. storm sewer, street lighting, and traffic signal infrastructure.

Maintain an acceptable safety record.
REQUIREMENTS
-
Education: High School graduation and vocational or apprentice training in mechanics or equipment operation. An associate’s or two-year technical degree is preferred but not required.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in the operation of light and/or heavy equipment, and other maintenance functions.

Preferred: 3-years experience

License/Registrations: Valid Minnesota Class A driver’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Able to work during emergency conditions and adverse weather conditions.

Must be proactive, responsive and a self-starter.

Possess character traits that support being part of a team and exhibiting a positive attitude and leadership while also working independently.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-
Perform general labor including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving more than 100 pounds.

Work may routinely require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

Employee may be required to push/pull equipment and/materials as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most work is performed in a field environment involving working inside and outside of buildings and vehicles. Seasonal conditions can include excessive heat or cold, and may involve working in wet, muddy, slippery, dusty, or windy conditions. There is often exposure to moving traffic and equipment, and great attention to detail must be exercised when working in tight quarters or around other people. Normal hours are 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, M-F, but employees will need to be available for callback scheduling and emergencies.
