Position Overview
The Manger of School Bus Transportation oversees all aspects of the transportation services provided by the school district. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of student transportation.
The Manager of School Bus Transportation plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school. This position requires a combination of managerial expertise, technical knowledge, and dedication to the well-being of students and staff.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement long-term transportation plans to support the needs of the school district.
- Coordinate with school administrators to align transportation services with academic schedules and requirements.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to continually improve transportation operations.
Supervision and Leadership
- Lead, and supervise transportation staff, including bus drivers, mechanics, and administrative personnel.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training to ensure compliance with safety regulations and service standards.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes safety, professionalism, and customer service.
Safety and Compliance
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure that all buses are properly maintained, inspected, and equipped with necessary safety features.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints related to transportation services and implement corrective actions as needed.
Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related inquiries from parents, students, staff, and community members.
- Collaborate with school administrators, district officials, and transportation committees to address concerns, gather feedback, and implement improvements.
- Establish effective communication channels to keep stakeholders informed of transportation schedules, changes, and updates.
- Liaise with an outside transportation company
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience in transportation operations, preferably in a school district or educational institution.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and best practices in student transportation.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (or ability to obtain).
- Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to transportation emergencies as needed.
