Job Description:
We are looking for a Maintenance Performance Engineer to join our team and play a key role in maintaining, supporting and continuously improving automated systems and solutions.
This is a highly technical, analytical, hands-on and customer-facing role. You will work closely with field maintenance teams, customers, suppliers, engineering and product analytics teams to troubleshoot complex issues, analyse system performance and drive measurable improvements.
A key part of the role will be diving into performance data and KPIs to understand how systems are performing, identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and translate data-driven insights into practical actions.
The ideal candidate will have a background in field service engineering, controls, automation, maintenance or industrial technology, combined with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to work confidently in demanding customer environments.
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Technical Performance
- Participate in maintenance activities and provide technical support to operational and field maintenance teams.
- Visit customer sites to understand their logistics, production and operational requirements.
- Support field maintenance teams with complex technical issues where specialist expertise is required.
- Carry out retrofit maintenance activities on systems, machines and equipment.
- Diagnose system issues, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Conduct problem analysis across both technical and operational processes to identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability.
- Analyse system logs, operational data and technical information to support fault finding and performance improvements.
- Support the deployment and commissioning of new systems and machines.
- Conduct system software updates and associated technical activities.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, escalating and requesting additional technical assistance where required.
- Act as a key technical interface with suppliers on maintenance-related issues.
Performance, KPI & Data Analysis
- Own and analyse key maintenance and system performance KPIs, using data to understand trends, identify issues and measure improvement.
- Dive deeply into performance-based data and operational metrics to identify the underlying causes of performance gaps.
- Develop and maintain performance reporting, dashboards and analysis to provide clear visibility of system and maintenance performance.
- Establish performance baselines and use data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and implement performance improvement plans where systems, processes or maintenance activities are not meeting agreed performance targets.
- Track improvement plans through to completion and measure their effectiveness using objective performance data.
- Identify recurring issues and trends across sites, systems and machines and use these insights to drive preventative and corrective actions.
- Translate complex technical and operational data into clear recommendations for customers and internal stakeholders.
- Work with relevant teams to define measurable targets and monitor progress against them.
- Use data to support decisions around maintenance strategy, system improvements, resource requirements and operational priorities.
Product Analytics & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Analytics / Product team to investigate system performance and identify opportunities for product and system improvement.
- Help deploy and integrate successful analytics initiatives, tools and processes into maintenance and operational activities.
- Connect field-level technical observations with product and system-level data to provide a holistic view of performance.
- Feed customer and field insights back into engineering, product and maintenance teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn analytical insights into practical technical and operational improvements.
- Contribute to the development of new performance monitoring capabilities and analytical approaches.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in the continuous improvement of systems, maintenance procedures and operational processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, maintainability, availability and overall performance.
- Develop data-driven approaches to preventative maintenance and performance optimisation.
- Support the standardisation and improvement of maintenance processes across customer sites.
- Share technical and analytical knowledge across field maintenance teams.
- Identify best practices and help implement them across the wider organisation.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Report system and performance issues clearly to customers, teams and relevant stakeholders.
- Manage customer expectations during technical incidents and performance improvement initiatives.
- Communicate performance data and technical findings in a clear and commercially relevant way.
- Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
- Take ownership of issues through to resolution while ensuring appropriate escalation when required.
Requirements
You should have:
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience working with automation and controls systems.
- Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with KPIs, performance metrics and operational data.
- Experience developing or implementing performance improvement plans.
- Proficiency with SQL and the ability to use data to investigate system performance and issues.
- Good Linux command-line proficiency.
- Understanding of WMS, WCS and WES systems and how they interact with automated equipment.
- Experience analysing system and application logs.
- An understanding of system architecture, process flows and operational workflows.
- Basic network troubleshooting knowledge.
- Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities.
- Good mechanical aptitude and confidence undertaking hands-on technical work when required.
- Experience working with analytics, monitoring or performance-management tools would be advantageous.
