Job Summary
WGI MRO Services is seeking an experienced Manual Lathe Operator / Machinist to join our aerospace repair team in Southwick, Massachusetts.
This is not repetitive production machining. As an FAA Part 145 repair station, we perform high-mix, varying-volume repair work on commercial and military aircraft engine components. Parts, setups, dimensions, and repair requirements can change from job to job.
We are looking for a machinist with a strong manual machining background who is comfortable setting up and operating equipment independently, working to tight tolerances, and solving machining challenges.
Experience with manual engine lathes is required. Experience with Hardinge and ProtoTRAK lathes is highly desirable.
Experienced toolmakers, retired machinists, and manual machinists from aerospace, medical, defense, tool & die, and other precision manufacturing backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual engine lathes
- Set up and operate Hardinge lathes
- Operate ProtoTRAK lathes as needed to support production
- Machine and repair precision aerospace engine components to exact specifications
- Perform independent machine setups and make adjustments as required
- Determine appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials and applications
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, repair manuals, and work instructions
- Machine components to tight tolerances
- Inspect and verify dimensions using precision measuring equipment
- Use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other inspection tools
- Troubleshoot machining and setup issues
- Accurately complete required production and quality documentation
- Work with Production, Engineering, and Quality to resolve machining challenges
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow applicable FAA, quality, and safety requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- Previous experience setting up and operating manual engine lathes
- Strong manual machining fundamentals
- Ability to independently set up and machine precision components
- Ability to hold tight tolerances
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Dependable with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
- Hardinge lathe experience
- ProtoTRAK lathe experience
- Toolmaker or tool & die experience
- Aerospace or MRO machining experience
- Experience machining high-value or complex components
- Experience in aerospace, medical, defense, or other precision manufacturing environments
Aerospace experience is preferred but not required. We can train an experienced machinist on our specific aerospace repair processes and procedures.
