Homelessness (IHARP) initiative through a two-year award commencing July 1, 2023.

IHARP Peer Role & Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will work closely with Exponents’ outreach peer workforce and the Director
of Special Projects in the development of weekly peer schedules including trainings, virtual and
in-person outreach & engagement and community event attendance/participation. Successful
candidates will participate in all efforts regarding the identification and assessment of potential
new venues and participate in our semi-annual community discovery process.
Primary Responsibilities
Engagement of persons who are experiencing homelessness (PeH) include individuals residing in
NYC DSS-DHS homeless shelters or in temporary housing, individuals deemed to be
experiencing unsheltered homelessness (sometimes described as “street homelessness”), as well
as individuals without a fixed address in geographical areas of NYC with high rates of drug
overdose and substance use-related concerns, as determined by the most recent NYC overdose
mortality data, available here.
Respectful and culturally responsive provision of services to marginalized populations of PEH
(e.g., people of color, women, people who are pregnant, youth, people with disabilities, people
involved in sex work, people who identify as LGBTQIA+).
Additional Responsibilities
- Work with the Director of Special Projects to ensure staff/peer participation in all training
and capacity building assistance activities supported by the FPHNYC and the
NYCDoHMH.
- Through observation and engagement, provide recommendations on additional trainings;
- Provide weekly reports on all program interactions related to IHARP activities;
- Provide overdose risk reduction messaging and safer drug use tips
- Discuss options for and connect to drug-checking services in NYC
- Offer individualized overdose safety planning
