Hours: Monday – Thursday: 5:00am – 4:30pm & Friday: 5:00am – 9:00am; overtime as needed

JOB SUMMARY: The Gang Saw Operator is responsible for loading, set up, operation and unloading of granite blocks to be cut into granite slabs by the automated multi-wire gang saws.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Use overhead crane to position blocks on the saw cart appropriately to ensure the correct orientation, wire spacing and quality according to the slab ID number.
- Determine the correct number of wires to use to obtain the optimal yield and maintain safe roughback sizes.
- Program saw to cut block according to stone tolerances and production ticket specifications.
- Complete the Saw Report to document the work being completed during each cut (saw, wire and block numbers, block measurements, number of slabs being cut, etc.).
- Use ladder to wedge slabs at the top of block before sawing through the bottom; ensures wires will not get pinched and diamond beads will not pull back.
- Verify thickness and flatness of slabs after they have been cut to ensure they meet production ticket and quality specifications.
- Track the wire footage of every wire crimp to know when they must be recrimpped and to minimize breakage. We still do this now but once the old saws are removed we will not need to track crimps
- Unload roughbacks with overhead crane and inspect the remainder of the block for any material issues that would cause the load to be unsafe.
- Use overhead crane to unload and move slabs to the tagging station, inspecting slabs to ensure tolerances are met.
- Use hammer drill to tag slabs with the correct JDE label and then scan them to log them into the JDE system. Unload delivery trucks and scan granite blocks to inventory them into the JDE system.
- Bundle slabs appropriately and use overhead crane to load them onto A-frames/pallets.
- Cut markers for the marker department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understand general and job-specific stone colors, characteristics, quality and appearance criteria to meet job requirements.
- General computer skills.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production.
- Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency.
- Mechanically inclined.
- General math skills.
- Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings.
- Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric.
- Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
