Full Job Description

Position Purpose/Summary

Responsible for the custody of prisoners, juvenile delinquents, as well as lost children, and for the clean and orderly condition of female detention facilities at police headquarters. Work is performed in accordance with well established procedures or prior instructions with supervisory assistance ordinarily available in unusual or difficult situations. No supervision is exercised over other employees.

Essential Functions

Searches prisoners for concealed evidence or weapons, secures prisoners in detention cell block.
Inspects detention quarters to maintain order and discipline, observes physical and mental condition of prisoners, and provides prisoner care services.
Investigates disturbances, handles behavior problems of prisoners, and visitors, assists police officers in quieting disturbed or unruly prisoners.
Administers first aid, and arranges for medical attention when necessary.
Maintains the clean and orderly condition of detention quarters, secures restaurant means for prisoners.
Escorts prisoners to and from court, guards prisoners closely during court sessions and visiting periods, releases prisoners as instructed.
Provides care and attention for lost children.
Performs related work as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of police detention and first aid procedures.
Working knowledge of routine cleaning and housekeeping methods.
Ability to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with police officers, prisoners and visitors.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two years of experience in institutional housekeeping or attendant work.

Paid Sick Time
Full time employees are immediately eligible to begin accruing 1 1/4 days per month which can be taken after 6 months of service. Unused sick days can be rolled over to subsequent calendar years. Supplemental Long Term and Short disability coverage is available to employees at the employee cost.

Paid Personal Days
Use up to 3 of your accrued sick days as Personal days. Personal days cannot be rolled over into the next calendar year.
