The Soccer Coach leads engaging soccer and movement experiences that foster teamwork, confidence, healthy lifestyles, and a lifelong love of physical activity while ensuring every student experiences a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment that supports Achieve SPARK's commitment to whole-child development.
Program Overview
Achieve SPARK is a dynamic enrichment program held twice a month that supports the academic, physical, and emotional well-being of elementary students. In collaboration with FIFA, the program combines literacy, wellness education, movement through soccer, and one-on-one mentorship from high school Big Buddy volunteers. Students enjoy joyful, meaningful learning experiences, and every Saturday includes a free book to take home along with a nutritious breakfast and lunch.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Implement the Achieve SPARK soccer curriculum with consistency across all program sites by leading engaging soccer-based activities, drills, and recreational games that prioritize participation, teamwork, and enjoyment for students of all skill levels
- Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs, abilities, and interests of students while maximizing participation
- Maintain consistent expectations, routines, and instructional quality across all Achieve SPARK sites
- Foster a supportive and safe environment where all students feel welcomed
- Manage group behavior using positive reinforcement strategies
- Support the matching process of Big Buddies and Little Buddies by assisting with transitions, identifying pairing needs, and communicating observations to the Site Director and Big Buddy Coordinator
Equipment & Operations
- Ensure proper use, organization, storage, and inventory of all soccer equipment
- Prepare equipment and activity spaces before programming and restore them afterward
- Report equipment needs, safety concerns, and supply shortages to the Site Director
Attendance & Documentation
- Understand all components of the Big/Little Buddy registration/attendance process
- Document incidents or student support needs through Incident Reports and Case Notes
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate proactively with the Site Director regarding student participation, behavior, equipment needs, and safety concerns
- Collaborate with the Site Director and Interns to ensure smooth transitions and successful program implementation
- Participate in coach trainings and professional development to continuously strengthen instructional practices
- Seek, receive, and implement feedback to continuously strengthen coaching practices, student engagement, and the quality of soccer programming
- Model professionalism, punctuality, enthusiasm, and positive leadership in all interactions
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Driver’s License
- MDCPS and DCF Background Clearance
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Background check required
- Understanding of soccer fundamentals and the ability to adapt instruction for different age groups
- Passion for youth development, mentorship, and creating positive experiences for students
- Reliable, energetic, and team-oriented
- A proven ability to work across lines of difference with diverse audiences and partners
- Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset
- Commitment to Achieve Miami's mission of expanding access to high-quality teachers
Strongly Preferred
- Previous experience with Achieve Miami
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole)
- Experience working in schools, nonprofits, or youth programs
- Experience coaching or working with youth in sports or recreation
- Interest in growing within the education or nonprofit field
Time Commitment & Compensation
- Pay Rate: $25/hour
- Program Hours: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM (16 Saturdays at 5 hours)
