Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Lead Low Voltage Technician to oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low-voltage systems across diverse telecommunications and networking environments including fire alarm, access control, cameras, and of course network cable. This pivotal role involves leading a team of technicians, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and maintaining adherence to industry standards such as NEC (National Electrical Code). The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in telecommunications systems, fiber optic systems, and computer networking, combined with excellent customer service skills. As a leader in this role, you will drive project success through technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving. The job includes all aspects of the installation from the beginning to the completed product.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate field service activities related to low-voltage electrical wiring, structured cabling installation, and telecommunication system setup.
- Install and troubleshoot fiber optic systems, including fiber splicing and cable termination, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
- Perform network installation tasks involving Ethernet cabling (Cat5, Cat6), network wiring, and communication system integration using schematics and technical diagrams.
- Operate diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters, telecommunications testing equipment, and RF testers to identify faults and implement effective solutions.
- Configure and troubleshoot networking equipment including Cisco routers, Juniper devices, Avaya telephony systems, VoIP solutions, and computer hardware components.
- Conduct routine maintenance on low-voltage electrical systems (AC/DC), power tools, and telecommunication equipment to ensure operational reliability.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating technical information clearly, managing client expectations, and delivering timely solutions during field service visits.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a service technician or lead technician specializing in low-voltage electrical systems, telecommunications wiring, or network installation.
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems installation—including splicing—and structured cabling standards such as NEC guidelines.
- Familiarity with communication protocols including Ethernet, TCP/IP networks, VoIP telephony, Cisco routers, Juniper devices, and Avaya systems.
- Ability to read schematics and technical diagrams accurately for system installation and troubleshooting purposes.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools like ohmmeters, RF testers, telecommunication testing equipment, and hand tools for equipment repair or installation tasks.
- Experience working with IT infrastructure in data centers or enterprise environments is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to clients.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel frequently for field assignments; relevant certifications such as NEC licensing or telecommunications certifications are preferred.
