Join our dedicated team as a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Professional Trainee and embark on a rewarding career dedicated to transforming lives through compassionate, evidence-based care. This paid apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop essential skills in addiction counseling, behavioral health, and clinical assessment while working alongside experienced professionals. You will gain hands-on experience in providing comprehensive support to individuals battling substance use challenges, helping them achieve lasting recovery and improved well-being. All apprentices will earn 560 hours of classroom and lab instruction, 4,000 hours of supervised work experience, and college coursework through Olympic College.
Duties
- Assist licensed clinicians in conducting patient assessments, intake interviews, and diagnostic evaluations using medical terminology and ICD coding standards (ICD-9, ICD-10).
- Support the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and group therapy sessions.
- Participate in crisis intervention and crisis management activities to ensure patient safety and stability during acute episodes.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within HIPAA-compliant medical records, ensuring thoroughness in medical documentation and adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Engage in case management activities, including patient care coordination, home and community care planning, and follow-up support to promote sustained recovery.
- Contribute to data collection efforts for research purposes related to addiction medicine, behavioral health outcomes, and treatment efficacy.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide child & family counseling, social work support, and behavioral health education tailored to individual needs.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field with an interest in addiction medicine or behavioral health, a plus
- Experience or familiarity with crisis intervention strategies, crisis management protocols, and PTSD care is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10), medical records management, and CPT coding for billing purposes.
- Ability to perform patient assessments with sensitivity and professionalism while maintaining strict confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent communication skills for individual and group counseling sessions; experience with motivational interviewing is a plus.
- Prior experience working in hospital settings or home & community care environments will be advantageous.
