Sellenriek Construction is hiring an experienced Mini Excavator Operator to support underground utility construction crews.
We’re looking for someone who can confidently operate a mini excavator around existing underground utilities, dig entry and exit pits, support utility installation, and complete backfilling and finish work without constant supervision.
This is a hands-on field position. The operator will also be expected to assist the crew with general underground construction duties when the machine is not in operation.
DAILY JOB DUTIES:

Operate a mini excavator for underground utility construction

Dig trenches, entry and exit pits, service connections, and utility crossings

Excavate around marked and exposed underground utilities

Support HDD and underground utility crews during active construction

Assist with placing conduit, pipe, handholes, and other underground materials

Backfill, compact, grade, and restore disturbed work areas
-
Use a spotter when working near utilities, structures, equipment, or limited-access areas

Read and follow utility markings, construction prints, and jobsite layouts

Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
-
Load, unload, and safely move equipment and materials as needed

Assist with hand digging, potholing, cleanup, and general labor duties when required

Communicate clearly with foremen, operators, locators, inspectors, and crew members

Follow OSHA, damage-prevention, and company safety procedures
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

CDL A Required
- Hands-on mini excavator operating experience required

Underground utility construction experience strongly preferred

Ability to operate a mini excavator independently and safely
-
Experience digging around marked or exposed underground utilities

Experience digging trenches, pits, crossings, or service connections

Ability to complete backfilling, grading, cleanup, and finish work

Understanding of safe digging and damage-prevention procedures

Comfortable working with a spotter in congested utility areas

Willing to assist with labor and general crew duties when needed

Able to work outdoors in varying weather and ground conditions

Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work as part of a field crew
-
Able to pass a background check and drug screening
