Summary:The Minister to Youth is responsible for overseeing a vibrant, Christ-centered ministry for middle school and high school students (grade6-12) throughout the year.
He/She will also work in close cooperation with staff members, parents of the youth and volunteer church leaders in developing and implementing an effective ministry that will lead young people to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This person will lead by example, being a committed and faithful follower of Jesus who works to help each student grow in their faith.
Essential Ministry Functions:
- Lead and organize effective student programs that include fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.
- Plan and lead Wednesday night Bible study/worship for students.
- Plan, coordinate, promote, execute and evaluate a balanced and comprehensive recreational program for students.
- Administer and supervise student recreation programs, reservations, and student use of the Christian Life Center (CLC).
- Give special consideration to the ministry needs of families with students to strengthen family ties
- Recruit, train, mentor and shepherd volunteer student staff with diverse gifts and personalities
- Provide counseling and spiritual direction to students on an individual basis
- Maintain contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities
- Strictly adhere to the Child Protection First! policies and procedures
- Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement
- Develop regular and timely communication to students, their parents and workers using various means of technology.
- Support CBC parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles, in concert with other pastoral staff
- Assist in the development and oversight of the student ministry budget
- Manage student fees for events and trips in a timely fashion
- Seek to integrate student ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally inter-generational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries
- Participate as needed or requested in the evaluation and development of the overall church ministry
Other Ministry Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct special training for student worker volunteers
- Conduct meetings with parents and students to provide information on student ministry events, recreation activities, mission trips, etc.
- Advise the Pastor and other ministry and lay leaders on the needs of the student ministry regarding space, equipment, supplies, materials, funding, etc.
- Assist with planning and conducting special projects and activities (such as camps, retreats, fellowships, recreational activities, etc.)
- Coordinate visitation for students and lead student worker volunteers to visit prospects and absentees.
- Create an environment that makes all students feel welcomed, loved and included.
- Work to build relationships with youth and their families, including home visits with parents and students.
- Prepare, submit to the Finance Committee, and administer the student ministry budget.
- Stay current on accepted church education doctrine, methods, materials, promotional ideas, and administrative techniques. Utilize when and where appropriate.
- Provide oversight for the student ministry chapel.
- Comply with all CBC policies and procedures
- Responsible for oversight of student ministry events, including recreational and fellowship events, that utilize the Christian Life Center (CLC).
- Maintain proper records and a calendar for student ministry events and activities, including those held in the CLC.
- Ensure that church facilities, including the Christian Life Center and Fellowship Hall, are left in reasonably good order following a student ministry event. This may include general cleanup, return and storage of tables, chairs, kitchen items and equipment.
- Perform other duties as required by the Pastor and/or Staff Administrator.
Expectations:
- Grow the CBC student ministry in meaningful ways
- Be mentored by the Senior Pastor, remaining accountable and responsive to his oversight of the student ministry
- Attend all worship services, with immediate family members.
- Attend staff meetings on a weekly basis.
- Present semi-annual ministry updates and goals for the coming year to the pastor and deacons
- Participate in a yearly job performance review with Staff Administrator and Personnel Committee Chairperson or Chairman of the Deacons.
- Present a yearly student ministry budget proposal
- Stay current with student ministry practices by reading, attending student leadership conferences, etc.
- Dress appropriately for worship services and other ministry related activities
Salary: This is a part-time ministry position (20 hours weekly). Salary shall be determined by the Church Finance Committee.
Qualifications and Position Requirements:
- Exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy family life.Experience in youth and/or student ministry, basic administrative skills, and a personal spiritual life consistent with biblical mandates for leaders (1 Timothy 3:1-7)
- Capable of creating and executing a long-term vision for CBC’s student ministry
- Filled with the Holy Spirit and called to student ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level
- An engaging teacher, with a strong Biblical and theological background, who is in agreement with CBC’s statement of faith
A self-motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, and possessing relational skills with students, parents, and staff.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
