Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with clinical procedures including animal restraint, catheterization, and sample collection.
- Prepare animals for examinations and surgeries by performing animal husbandry, grooming, and ensuring proper positioning.
- Maintain accurate records of pet care, laboratory tests, X-ray imaging, and treatment plans using veterinary terminology and aseptic techniques.
- Handle animals safely using dog handling skills and animal restraint techniques to minimize stress and ensure safety for both pets and staff.
- Support diagnostic processes by performing laboratory tests, taking X-rays, and understanding animal physiology and anatomy.
- Provide pet care services such as feeding, grooming, and administering medications under supervision.
- Maintain cleanliness of the clinic environment, including sterilizing equipment and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols.
Requirements
- Proven kennel experience with animals, demonstrating comfort handling dogs, cats, and other small animals.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology to support clinical tasks effectively.
- Experience in dental terminology and procedures is a plus; familiarity with pet grooming is desirable.
- Prior veterinary technician or assistant experience is preferred; certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is highly valued.
- Ability to perform laboratory tasks, take X-rays accurately, and apply aseptic techniques during procedures.
- Strong animal handling skills with the ability to restrain animals safely during examinations or treatments.
